Child & Youth Counselling at Peak Experience Counselling

How Can Youth Benefit from Counselling?
Being young is such a special time of life and can be hard work! Many of the challenges young people face can be very overwhelming; the stress of school, friendships and other key relationships, identity, values, the future and how to manage it all!
Youth often find comfort in having a trusted adult to share with, gain skills from and receive guidance without having to worry about worrying their parent(s) or other loved ones. Counselling often becomes another helpful resource for youth as they move into adulthood.
Several of our counsellors have experience, education and interest in working with youth. Please reach out to find the best fit for you.

How Can Children Benefit from Counselling?
Children have very different needs for expressing themselves than adults do. Children use behaviours and actions to express themselves more than they are developmentally ready to express themselves with words alone. This is why having a counsellor who is especially understanding of child development and trained to help children express their emotions in ways that work best for them, not for us adults, is so important.
Claudia Healey works with children ages 6 and up. She uses modalities such as play therapy, art therapy, and sensory or movement-based activities to help children understand and express themselves.
The children Claudia works with are often navigating ADHD, Autism (ASD), anxiety, emotional regulation, bullying, social relationships, family changes or conflict, and trauma.
