Men's Counselling at Peak Experience Counselling

What is Unique About Counselling Specific to Men?

It is key for a therapist to pay attention to how counselling is delivered; we meet you where you are, respecting your communication style, and helping expand it without forcing it, so you can express yourself fully and authentically.

Often unique to men's counselling experience is:

  • social conditioning around masculinity

  • expression of emotions verbally & non-verbally

  • exploring "how do I feel about this?" but also, "what can I do about this?"

  • building emotional vocabulary and skills based on individual style, personality and interests

  • addressing stigma around emotional expression

Men often reach out for support with:

  • Anger management

  • Relationship struggles (communication, intimacy)

  • Work stress or identity tied to career

  • Purpose and fulfillment

  • Loneliness and isolation

  • Fatherhood and expectations

  • Depression that doesn’t “look like” depression

  • Dependence and addiction

At Peak Experience Counselling, we understand that the definition of masculinity is changing in our society. We see more and more men seeking out counselling as a way to understand themselves and their relationships and walking away feeling empowered and connected.

Men can greatly benefit from a confidential space, an attentive listener and a trusted guide to support learning about themselves, their emotional experiences, drives, reactions and how to express themselves and fulfill their relational, emotional and mental needs.

Several of our counsellors have experience, education and interest in working with men. Please reach out to find the best fit for you.

"The person in peak-experiences feels their self, more than other times, like a prime-mover, more self-determined. They feel their self to be their own boss, fully responsible, fully volitional, with more "free-will" than at other times, master of their fate, an agent."

~Abraham Maslow, Toward a Psychology of Being, 1968
